The displacer beast is an aberration that resembles a black-skinned feline with tentacles. It has the inherenent ability to distort its image, appeared to be displaced from its actual location, making it a formidable opponent in combat.
The creature was loosely inspired by a creation of A.E. Van Vogt, the coeurl, featured in his story, "Black Destroyer," and later, the novel Voyage of the Space Beagle.
